People often believe childbirth and old age cause urinary incontinence. While these two life happenings can play a role in bladder leakage, there are many reasons that a woman can experience urinary incontinence. The truth is, many actions that lead to urinary incontinence are attributed to common actions that women blindly participate in without knowing the full consequences.

The sooner we open up the conversation about urinary incontinence and bladder leakage, the sooner we can bring awareness to the topic and take action to handle it before and after diagnosis.

Have You Ever Heard Of Stress-Induced Urinary Incontinence?

Stress-induced urinary incontinence can be hereditary, but pressure on the bladder from the stomach or external activities can also cause it. Taking the proper precautions and staying healthy can avoid the following cases of stress-induced urinary incontinence.

  • Heavy Lifting: Exercise is beneficial to the body in moderation, but too much can cause excessive trips to the restroom. Heavy lifting puts unnecessary pressure on the pelvic floor and eventually weakens the muscle that closes off the bladder. Women should stay cautious about pulling muscles and causing urinary leakage when lifting weights.
  • Smoking: Chronic smokers are known to have a constant cough and might unknowingly experience stress-induced urinary incontinence. The pressure from the consistent coughing tends to have a negative effect on the abdominal area the sphincter muscles in the urinary system. Once the pressure from the coughing causes enough damage, it makes a trip to the bathroom a make it or break it situation.
  • Unhealthy Eating and Inactivity: Healthier eating habits and staying active are essential rules to follow through life, but many people don’t know these factors can also help them keep a healthy bladder longer. The amount of fat distributed around the abdomen can weigh down the bladder and cause frequent urination.
